Notification type: Web hook
closed

It would be amazing to have a new notification type called "web hook." So instead of generating an email, SMS or push notification, you could trigger a post hook to a specified URL with whatever payload params you want to send (similar to building a message). Zapier or Integromat can receive those post hooks and handle the rest from there. This is a feature that would pay compounding returns...

This should be possible now via custom actions. Let me know if there's a limitation there that's preventing this.

Webhooks + Integromat

I noticed that Adalo has Zapier but the issue with Zapier is that it is expensive, and you then have to wait 15minutes per request. Users can wait for an update every 15 minutes. So I think a webhook would be great, I noticed that is ALMOST possible, because when integrating to external external collections, you have a request. However it would be good for be able to add a query string that goes and does some work outside and returns results. This would BOOST the performance of Adalo and solve a number of feature I see people request. Also Integromat and IFTTT are better than Zapier so just integrating Integromat would help even more.

Ben Haefele: there is a duplicate. BTW - when you merge them, does it bring over the other (net new) upvotes?

I made a quick video on how to do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g71Qyq4FlVc

To piggyback off this -- it would be great if we could provide a webhook URL to users to allow them to integrate our apps with other platforms, especially those that do not offer an API.
Have a current test case where I want to build an app that allows users to automatically send postcards from Lob.com when a transaction occurs in a platform my organization uses for processing transactions (they refuse to integrate Lob on their end but they offer webhooks).
Sean Tierney
Lenox: I'm confused: "platform my organization uses for processing transactions " <- is that an Adalo app? If so I've used Zapier to send postcards via Lob.com before. You should be able to use Patrick's technique below to post a payload to a Zapier catch hook when that transaction occurs in your app then create a Zapier action after that catch hook that passes that info through to Lob and triggers the postcard send.
If your platform is not an Adalo app, I'm not following where Adalo fits in this equation... but as long as you can get the data into Zapier you can 100% generate a postcard from there.

Sean Tierney: I actually found a workaround for what I was trying to do. What I'm requesting is probably specific to what I'm needing not for the masses.

Actually I think you can already do this through a link.
Sean Tierney
Patrick Ford: Can you elaborate? I know you can use magic text to add a link in the application but it would require a user clicking on it to get it to do anything unless I'm missing something... the idea here is to be able to trigger a post to a webhook and send a custom payload the same way you can trigger any of the other actions like creating or updating a record.
Patrick Ford
Sean Tierney: Sure I will make a video on how to do this.

Patrick Ford: This is super helpful. thanks for recording that. Seems like a great trick. TL;DR for anyone who hasn't watched the video: this technique involves creating an "interstitial" page with a webview component that hits the remote catch hook URL and you send params in the querystring of the webview using magic text. It then immediately links the user back to the referring page (or you could forward them to a different page like a thank you page). This is a great workaround for the absence of the feature I requested.

This would be really cool - some magic text to help build a webhook would open up a whole world of possibilities...
